Newcomer Jamal "Gravy" Woolard caught his big break when he was plucked to portray the Notorious B.I.G. in the long-awaited biopic, 'Notorious.' Unfortunately for Woolard, Biggie's 'Mo Money Mo Problems' theory might actually be taking effect.

The unknown rapper's life wasn't all "gravy" before snagging the film role, but it appears things have gotten a little sticky between Woolard and his wife of seven months, Trina Younger.

According to reports, Woolard was arrested on Sept. 14, 2008 and charged with misdemeanor assault, menacing and harassment in connection with an alleged altercation with Younger. Court papers indicate the aspiring rapper/actor admitted to slapping his wife. "She wouldn't stop pushing me, so I snuffed her," Woolard reportedly told the police.

The incident went unnoticed by everyone including the rapper's mother in-law, who insists Woolard would never resort to violence. "I know he wouldn't hit her," said Roslyn Younger. "He's not like that. Most definitely, they have a good relationship. That's impossible. I think it's made up. He's a loving husband and I never heard of anything like that before in my life."

The rapper was the victim of an assault when he was shot in the butt outside New York's Hot 97 radio station in 2006.

Woolard and Younger are due back in court on Jan. 29.
