Nicki Minaj to Appear on David Guetta’s ‘Where Dem Girls At?’
Nicki Minaj has collaborated with just about every major music player in hip-hop and R&B. From Usher to Ludacris to Rihanna, the Queens native was the reigning queen of collabos for quite some time. Now the ‘Pink Friday’ creator is joining forces with dance producer David Guetta, on a track set to appear on his forthcoming album.
‘Where Dem Girls At?’ which will be featured on Guetta’s follow-up to 2009’s ‘One Love’ album, is in the running to be the French man’s first single off the effort. The song showcases vocals from Nicki Minaj as well as rapper Flo Rida.
When the Young Money performer met with Guetta to discuss being featured on one of his tracks, he explains she was less than thrilled to hear news she would be joined by another artist. But after listening to ‘Where Dem Girls At?’ in its entirety, Minaj agreed to lay down vocals, as the song’s hit-making potential was undeniable.
“And we met,” Guetta told MTV of his and Minaj’s union. “I was gonna play records, but she said, ‘You know, you should know that I wanna do a solo record. I don’t want to be with somebody else.’ So I said, ‘OK, no problem. Can I just play you that record?’ And that record is so big that it’s undeniable. And she was like, ‘OK, I’ll do that last one.’ And it’s a major record!”
The producer, known for crafting hits such as ‘When Love Takes Over’ featuring Kelly Rowland and ‘Sexy Bitch’ featuring Akon, called on Flo Rida’s assist because of their dual success on 2010’s ‘Club Can’t Handle Me,’ which was featured on the ‘Step Up 3D’ soundtrack.
As for what Minaj will bring to the table on ‘Where Dem Girls At?’ Guetta promises she’s giving listeners a taste of a character different from Roman Zolanski or Martha. “I think she kind of has a new persona for that record,” Guetta explained. “She’s more London now.”
