Nicki Minaj showcases a side of herself this week that she usually hides away: the emotional one. During an interview with Power 105.1’s ‘Angie Martinez Show’ on Wednesday (Dec. 17), the Queen Barbz talked about her latest album, ‘The Pinkprint’ and, more interestingly, her personal life.

Angie asked the ‘Only’ rapper how she’s dealing with her split from her former boyfriend, Safaree “Scaff Beezy” Samuels, to which she responded with candor.

"My relationship was based off of love, and there still is nothing but love there," she said. "This is not some person I picked up off the street. This is somebody I grew up with. Like, I don’t even know how I’m gonna function without that person in my life. I’ve never lived my life as a famous person without him.”

Minaj admitted that she still thinks about him and wants to call him to hear his opinion on things at times. At one point, the conversation got too emotional for her, which caused her to get her a little teary-eyed.

After a quick commercial break, Minaj wanted to reiterate that her relationship with Samuels was not a joke or done for publicity sake. It was the real deal.

"I don’t think people realize it’s not just a relationship or breakup. That was a humongous part of my life,” the MC shared. “I know because of the world we live in, that relationships are not scared anymore or important. But this is different.”

“It's something that I am dealing with publicly... and it’s not easy,” she continued. "I’m also not gonna joke about it or try to disrespect him and try to act like he didn’t mean the world to me and still doesn’t mean the world to me. I’m not going to be corny about it either. I’m just figuring it out.”

For the record, Samuels has stated that their breakup had nothing to do with infidelity on either side.

“Cheating was never the issue,” he wrote via Twitter. “People grow apart and it is what it is and that’s all I’ll say about that. A lot can happen and change in 12 years.” He then added, “All you see is a public figure. We will always love each other no matter what.”

Also in the chat with Angie, Minaj touched on her new LP. The 'Bed of Lies' rapper said that she has never been more confident about her artistry than with ‘The Pinkprint.’ She opened up about working with Beyonce and her “platonic” relationships with Meek Mill and her fellow Young Money labelmate Drake.
