Nicki Minaj Clears Up Comments About Kanye West’s ‘Gold Digger’ Lyrics
In case you missed it, Nicki Minaj told Marie Claire in a recent interview that she was tired of black women being made to feel as though they are less desirable than their white counterparts.
She called out the disparity in the treatment of black women in general-- from the workforce to beauty standards. In particular, she mentioned Kanye West's lyrics on "Gold Digger," pointing out the irony in his line "And when they get on they leave your ass for a white girl," seeing as how he's now married to a white woman, Kim Kardashian.
“I’m so tired of black women feeling that when our men get rich, they’re going to leave them for a woman of a different race,” she told the publicaton. “It wasn’t funny when Kanye said it [on ‘Gold Digger’]— ‘When he get on, he’ll leave your ass for a white girl’ – and Kanye happens to be with a white girl now. It wasn’t funny when he said it; it was the f—-ing truth.”
Since then, her words have been picked up by a number of outlets, so much so, that the rapper felt she needed to clear the air, and clarify that she was not dissing, blasting or slamming Kanye with her comments.
"Slams" a man/genius who gave me one of the biggest looks of my career?" she wrote yesterday (Oct. 17) in direct response to a tweet by Cosmopolitan. "I said he wasn't kidding, he was speaking the TRUTH about d industry."
She continued, "I was saying he's the one who said it first. He doesn't apologize for his choices. He tells the truth about stuff ppl don't wanna hear!"
In other words, just because he called him out doesn't mean she doesn't respect him—don't get it twisted. Check out Nicki's tweets below.
