As hard as it is to believe now, there really was a world before Nicki Minaj. There was a time when the superstar was just Onika Miraj attending Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts in New York. Today, fans see a nice reminder of that.

The British television show 'You Saw Them Here First,' a series that tracks stars' origins, shows footage of a teenage Minaj in braids performing a dramatic scene in school.

The rapper is a passionate performer in the clip, which finds her acting alongside a fellow student as a teach watches the scene unfold. Things take a slightly violent turn when Minaj throws a phone at another actress and the teacher has to rein her in a bit to prevent her from harming the co-star.

Although acting is part of her roots, Minaj made her big screen premiere this year with a role in the romantic comedy 'The Other Woman.'
