On Sept. 15, a Missouri judge found former police officer Jason Stockley not guilty in the shooting death of Anthony Lamar Smith. The verdict led to a number of protests over the weekend, one of which included Nick Cannon.

Sporting a black Colin Kaepernick jersey, Cannon could be seen marching with his fist in the air during a St. Louis protest. Other photos showed the actor sitting on ground and putting his hands up in the air.

Cannon also posted a video of himself at the protests on Instagram. In the caption of the video, he wrote, "St. Louis we out here in the streets with you! #FrontLiners #BlackLivesMatter."

In a 2016 interview with CNN, Cannon spoke about the Black Lives Matter movement and said the country needs to "recondition the mindset of what a young Black man means to America."

"For so long, we have been conditioned and programmed to fear young black men that we don't care about one another," he said. "There's this divide and conquer mentality that has been going on for so long -- all the way to slavery. It's unfair drug laws. I believe things like the prison industrial complex, that's real."

Cannon continued, "That's modern day slavery. When we say black lives matter, we're not really stepping out there saying 'oh we're mad at an individual.' I truly believe it's a systemic problem. We know that there's good cops, but I don't know of a good system."
