Ne-Yo, Solange Create T-Shirt to Aid Victims of Japan’s Quake

Ne-Yo

Earlier this month, Ne-Yo traveled to Japan, minus his backup dancers, to perform several charity concerts. With his trip to Asia over, the singer/songwriter created his own T-shirt and poster to help with the disaster aid.

The T-shirts are available, through Ne-Yo’s website, in red, black and white for $25. They read “Spread Love Through Music” on the front and “Japan 2011″ on the back, with the words “love” and “music” being replaced by their universal signs of a heart and music note. The posters bear the same message but only cost $10.

“You can absolutely spread love through music, and I think that’s what’s called for in this time of crisis,” Ne-Yo said in regards to the project. All proceeds will go towards part of Japan affected by the recent 8.9 earthquake.

Also jumping on the bandwagon are Solange Knowles and her 6-year-old son. “My 6-year-old son, Daniel Julez J. Smith, was highly affected by the devastating footage he witnessed of the catastrophe,” Solange explained of their t-shirt initiative. “After a series of questions and conversations, he decided he wanted to contribute in some way.” Beyonce’s nephew went hard in da paint and created his own take on the Japanese flag for the “Julez for Japan” T-shirt. The tee costs $25 with all proceeds going towards Peace Winds Japan.

Snoop Dogg, who dropped his eleventh album ‘Doggumentary’ today, also designed his own charity T-shirt that reads “Keep Ya Head Up Japan!”

Since the devastating earthquakes, successive tsunamis and Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear plant accident rocked the island nation earlier this month, 11,000 bodies have been recovered and thousands more have been left homeless. Japan Prime Minister Naoto Kan said the country is on “maximum alert” as rebuilding efforts — estimated to cost $310 billion, the most after any natural disaster — begin.
