Nas No Longer Plans to Release ‘Lost Tapes 2′

LA Times / MCT

Fans hoping for a sequel to Nas‘ 2002 outtakes album, ‘The Lost Tapes,’ can kiss that dream goodbye … for now at least.

In a recent interview with MTV News, the rapper revealed he is shelving the ‘Lost Tapes 2′ project. The decision came after making the switch from Sony to Def Jam. “When I released ‘Lost Tapes,’ it was on Sony,” he explained. “Being at Sony for so long, I was used to things going easy.”

“At Def Jam, I just got there, I’m still in my ways at Sony. I’m like, ‘Yeah, this record’ll come out this time, a few months later I’mma drop this.’ But we just started working together, so they’re like, ‘We can do this, but wait, maybe we should do it like this,’ and I wasn’t used to that. And then there was no communication at all, and I wasn’t used to that.”

In October, Nas sent an e-mail to executives at Def Jam — which he also sent out to the public as well — blasting them for holding back the release of the LP. Two months later fans launched their own petition against the label, but both efforts failed to produce any results. Now, Nas says that the time has passed for releasing ‘Lost Tapes 2.’ “Now, it’s all about the new record,” he said.

Nas’ ninth solo album, ‘Untitled,’ was released in 2008, and since then he has dropped the collaborative album ‘Distant Relatives’ with Damian Marley. The two are still touring in support of the LP and will make a stop at Central Park’s SummerStage series in New York City this year.
