Rap legend and exercise advocate Grandmaster Melle Mel has been noted almost as much for his contribution to hip-hop culture as for his physique in recent years, and now the Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five founding member will be sharing his fitness tips on a new television show.

According to the New York Daily News, the 49-year-old rap pioneer is preparing to launch a new fitness show, 'Grand Master Fitness with Melle Mel,' which will broadcast on public access channels BronxNet, Brooklyn's Brick Arts Media Channel and Manhattan's Neighborhood Network.

"The average American used to be a strong, respectable person," Melle Mel explained. "Now he's fat and lazy and wondering when he's going to get his next Big Mac. We need a more fit image. It's got to be done, and I'm going to do it."

Mel will be instructing viewers how to more effectively exercise, diet and eat healthy, while visiting various NYC gyms, and working out with celebrity guests.

"We're going to mix it up. We're going to go to different gyms, different playgrounds to see what people do to stay fit," Mel continued. "Every episode isn't going to be me and a bunch of people sweating to music. I want to make it fun, and show people how to eat right."

'Grand Master Fitness with Melle Mel' airs this summer.
