In one of the biggest WTF moments that you didn't see at the 2016 Billboard Music AwardsMeek Mill nabbed a trophy for Top Rap Album for Dreams Worth More Than Money. Yep, that means the Philadelphia rapper beat out Drake's If Your'e Reading This It's Too Late, Future and Drizzy's collaboration project, What a Time to Be Alive, Dr. Dre's Compton and Kendrick Lamar's game-changing juggernaut, To Pimp a Butterfly.

It was the only category Meek was nominated for, with Top Rap Artist trophy going to Drake and Wiz Khalifa winning Best Rap Song with "See You Again" featuring Charlie Puth. For unknown reasons, the BBMAs did not air any of the hip-hop awards during the live broadcast, which was hosted by Ludacris and Ciara.

According to Billboard, the awards are not chosen by a governing body but a complex-data based system - so complex that it allows Meek Mill to win Top Rap Album in a year that was full of superior releases.

Meek Mill might've taken a lot of losses this year after an extended back-and-forth with Drake, but he was happy to take the honor and took to Instagram to share his excitement, as did his girlfriend Nicki Minaj.
