MC Lyte hasn't revealed why she's dropping her first album in 11 years soon, but it's certainly welcomed. Her new song featuring Common -- 'Dear John' -- showcases why. The bass-riding bit of inspiration is produced by Loudbox.

Common giving a solid verse is pretty much a given at this point. What's more important is how MC Lyte doesn't allow her OG status to put her on a pedestal. She sounds relatable through her introspective lyrics. "Lives left in hallways, death's breath is in the air / Let your thirst for life persevere," she rhymes.

'Dear John' helps promote #EducateOURMen initiative, a scholarship founded by MC Lyte's Hip Hop Sisters Foundation. Check it out here for more information.
