MC Hammer will be making a charity appearance this weekend, in support of a local California family who lost their father to cancer, and now face the possibility of losing their home.

In an effort to raise money for Florence Platt and her two children, Ryen and Kayla, 10 bay area Tae Kwon Do schools have partnered with Hammer and the Mountain View Christian Center to host the Kick-A-Thon For Humanity, which takes place on October 16. Hammer will also be honored with the World Wide Humanitarian Award during the event, for his "care and works throughout the world, helping to make a difference in business, entertainment, church and family," according to a press release. At the Kick-A-Thon, students from the participating schools will attempt to throw as many kicks as possible in a 2-minute period of time, receiving donations from sponsors for each kick thrown, with the proceeds going to the Platt family.

"I have kids of my own and can only imagine what the Platt's are going through right now," said Kick-A-Thon organizer Master Kang. "I'm pleased this event will help them on a financial level. But I'm just as pleased so many kids, families and individuals can come together, compassionately and generously, in support of our fellow man. It's a profound lesson for the kids and an extraordinary act of love."

The Kick-A-Thon will take place at the Mountain View Christian Center at 5000 Amaryllis St., Oakley, Calif. at 10AM on Saturday, October 16.
