Mary J. Blige Responds to Release of Burger King Ad: ‘I Would Never Allow It’
Mary J. Blige has finally addressed the controversial Burger King ad which featured the revered singer belting out an ode to the Crispy Chicken Snack Wrap, claiming she had never approved the "unfinished" ad to air.
"I agreed to be a part of a fun and creative campaign that was supposed to feature a dream sequence," Blige told TMZ, in a statement. "Unfortunately, that's not what was happening in that clip."
The ad has since been removed from Burger King's YouTube hub, after causing a serious backlash.
"I understand my fans being upset by what they saw," Blige continued. "But, if you're a Mary fan, you have to know I would never allow an unfinished spot like the one you saw go out."
Burger King has confirmed that the ad aired "before all of the licensing and final approvals were obtained ... We would like to apologize to Mary J. and all of her fans for airing an ad that was not final."
The final ad, which Blige is rumored to have received $2 million for, will reportedly be released shortly.
