Perhaps Mariah Carey indulged in some celebratory cocktails before making her way on stage at the Palm Springs International Film Festival awards gala on Jan. 5. Upon learning she was named Breakthrough Actress for her role in 'Precious,' the critically acclaimed singer shared a wacky acceptance speech with audience members.

After greeting the film's director, Lee Daniels, with a hug onstage, Mariah stood behind the podium, only to begin her speech in a flighty manner. "I have to say ... This is ...," she said between pauses. "And please forgive me because I'm a little bit, um ... " An audience member finished the sentence for Mariah with a shouted expletive, to which she replied, "Yeah!" and pointed an acknowledging finger to the crowd.
While she babbled on, the 'H.A.T.E.U' singer disclosed her encounter with a film idol and one of the night's honorees. "I met Helen Mirren tonight," she revealed, before clapping. "I couldn't believe it; the genius Helen Mirren."

Giggles ensued throughout the remainder of her dialogue, and before leaving the stage, she apologized for her antics. "Sorry," she told the audience. "Sometimes I get a little ... " Carey then stopped to snap her fingers, performed a little shuffle with her arms, then added "... you know, difficult."

Before presenting an award later on that evening, actor Sean Penn joked, "Think anything's going to make YouTube tonight?" You can watch the acceptance speech after the jump.
