From Def Jam to Google. Veteran hip-hop executive Lyor Cohen is launching a new music company with backing from Google.

Billboard reports that the former Def Jam and Warner Music Group honcho is launching a new music venture. Google and other investors are on board to fund the "music-based entertainment company." Lyor is recruiting his former colleagues Todd Moscowitz, who oversaw Asylum Records, and Kevin Liles for the new firm.

With nearly 30 years in the music industry, Lyor has been instrumental in the careers of everyone from Jay Z to T.I. so expect other big names to jump onboard soon.
