Lupe Fiasco Nixes Kanye West, Pharrell Supergroup Album

It looks like the debut album from the rap supergroup Child Rebel Soldier — Lupe Fiasco, Kanye West and Pharrell Williams — will not see the light of day. The news came from Lupe himself, during an interview with Las Vegas radio station HOT 97.5, following his performance at the city’s House of Blues Saturday (May 5). After speaking on the status of his third studio album, ‘Lasers,’ the Chicago native gave an emphatic “no” when asked about the CRS album, without providing any further explanation.

This latest announcement contrasts Lupe’s statements on the project earlier this year. “Pharrell hit me the other day, and he was like, ‘Yo, we really need to do this Child Rebel Soldier project,” he said in an interview.” We did, like, four songs [so far]. So that’s four songs of Lupe Fiasco that your punk ass don’t got. Hopefully, it’s coming soon. But I’m not gonna stray anybody off [their own projects] like that. Pharrell hit me the other day and said we need to go back into the studio and do some more songs. I don’t know what Kanye’s doing, but we’ll figure it out.” News of a possible supergroup came after the three collaborated on the track ‘Us Placers’ which appeared on West’s ‘Can’t Tell Me Nothing’ mixtape back in 2007.

Since neither West nor Williams have refuted Lupe’s claims, we’ll just have to wait and see what will actually come of CRS. In the meantime, In the meantime, West and Lupe are both prepping solo projects while Williams and his group N.E.R.D. will drop ‘Nothing’ June 15.
