The hip-hop community in Louisville, Ky., is mourning the loss of local rapper Louis Keyz. The 33-year-old rhymer was shot and killed outside of an apartment complex Sunday (July 5).

Keyz, whose real name is Michael Thomas Jr., died from a gunshot wound after EMS responded to calls of a man being gunned down at a Louisville apartment complex. He was later pronounced dead at the scene.

When news broke of the shooting, friends and family members gathered at the scene to see what happened. Unfortunately, police have no suspect or witnesses in the case.

Local radio personality Ibrahim Dix, also known as Ez Bluegrass, said Louisville has lost a great person who was beloved by many in the community.

“They really took something big, they took something, something creative, something once in a lifetime man, you can't make another Louis Keyz or Mike Thomas,” he told WLKY.com.

Fans went on social media to mourn the lost of Louis Keyz. Dustin Tucker, a local musician from Louisville who recorded with Keyz, wrote an elegiac tribute to the late rapper on Facebook.

“One of the most professional cats I've ever had the pleasure of working with,” he wrote. “He always had respect for what we were trying to do. We have got to stop this senseless violence. R.I.P. Louis.”

We send our heartfelt condolences to Keyz’s family and friends. May he rest in peace.
