Lil Yachty, who has made it known that artists who most hip-hop heads deem to be legends—Tupac, Biggie, Nas—are of very little interest to him, exchanged words with Anderson .Paak on Twitter about his opinions, sort of.

Lil Boat stirred controversy again with his recent Billboard interview where he said that he "couldn't name five songs by Tupac and Biggie Smalls." It of course, sent folks into a tizzy, wondering why a rapper, even one who's only 19, would be so nonchalant about hip-hop history. Anderson .Paak was one of the many who seemed have a response to Yachty's comments, though he didn't address the young rapper directly.

"Don't be cocky in the fact that you don't know anything about hip hop history," Anderson tweeted on Aug. 27. "Real artists are students of the game first."

Lil Boat seemed to take the comment to heart, tweeting that he doesn't have to like something just because everyone else does.

"I think it's funny how people feel like you HAVE to like something just cause everybody else does," he wrote yesterday (Aug. 28). "Or like I HAVE to know something."

Yachty continued his defense saying, "In where in the handbook of hip hop does it say u must know this list of songs to make music. Lmao."

This isn't the first time Lil Boat has stirred controversy with his opinions on hip-hop. Just a couple of weeks ago, he exchanged barbs on Twitter with Hot 97's Ebro, who took offense when Yachty responded to an old tweet suggesting he was the "new Nas."

“Ion wanna be Nas, I wanna be rich,” Yachty responded before quoting the “new Nas” tweet and writing, “I love this tweet for the simple fact of how mad it will make old people.”

Ebro responded later in the day, accusing the Atlanta rapper of trolling. Yachty, who makes music that’s clearly specifically targeted for a young demographic, has commented previously about his disdain for so-called “serious” rap.

“It’s just fun, it’s not serious,” he said of his music in an interview with Tidal. “I hate serious rap. It’s boring. Serious rap music puts me to sleep.”

At any rate, check Yachty's response to Anderson .Paak below.
