Lil Mama ‘More Disciplined’ for Her Comeback Album
It’s been four years since Lil Mama‘s ‘Lip Gloss’ was poppin’, and despite getting booed during a freestlye performance late last year, the Brooklyn native is ready to get back into the swing of things. Mama, now 21, revealed that she was able to make it through the performance amid the crowd’s jeers pulling on the strength from both God and her family, and credits her life experiences with the evolution of her career.
“I think I’ve grown not only as an artist but as a person,” she told The BoomBox when asked about her reaction to being booed in her hometown. “I’m a really hyper spirit, sometimes other people are not ready for heavy energy. Not saying that I’m going to slow down my performances or anything like that, but as an artist I’ve grown to learn how to be a little bit more disciplined. I’ve been through a lot of things, especially in the last three, four years of my career. Everything that I’ve been through is key to learning something new.”
Aside from working on new music, the rapper continues to transition from being an artist to a TV personality, reprising her gig as one of three judges on the MTV show ‘America’s Best Dance Crew.’ With the show going into its sixth season, Lil Mama is excited to help aspiring dancers showcase their talents. “The new season is gonna be dope,” she promises. “‘America’s Best Dance Crew’ — that’s a milestone for me and I’m happy to be a part of it.”
The show which is produced by ‘American Idol’ judge Randy Jackson premiered on the network in February of 2008. Singer Omarion signed on as a judge taking the place of Shane Sparks, who was riddled by a child molestation scandal resulting in his arrest in 2009. The new season of ‘ABDC’ will premiere on April 7, on MTV.
