Songstress Krys Ivory hit the stage as a co-headliner for BMI's 'Next Fresh Thing' showcase at the famed Viper Room Club in Los Angeles, Wednesday (March 31). Hosted by Los Angeles radio personality Devi Dev, the event included performances by newcomers Miguel, Timothy Bloom and Quincy Brown to a packed standing-room only crowd. Ivory, a protégé of singer/producer Ryan Leslie, treated fans to songs 'Best Next 2 Ya' and 'Winner' off her new 'Reflections' mixtape, plus the previously unreleased track 'Rehab,' before wrapping up with a cover of Alanis Morissette's 'Ironic.'

Although known for performing urban-pop driven music, Ivory is a long-time fan of Morisette's song. "Vocally I love where it goes," she told The BoomBox before the show. "I love what it represents. I kinda' wanted to take people to the left like 'whoa I wasn't expecting that.' With 'Ironic,' the subject matter talks about how in life weird things happen. You don't have control but sometimes they're for the best. Life has a weird little way of letting you know that you're going to be alright."

The Southern California native knows a lot about making it through extraordinary circumstances. After battling Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma, Ivory is proudly cancer free. "I battled it for a year," she revealed. "I'm very blessed that I didn't have to battle it for longer. I went through the chemo[therapy] and I lost the hair and everything. I just praise God that I was able to conquer this disease." These days the singer has all but locked herself in the recording studio prepping an album release in Japan then heading back state side to drop her debut. "The album would be very melody driven. I want all my songs to touch people's hearts. I want the subject matter to touch people's hearts in a spiritual sense versus just a song that you can play on the radio. So one thing that I'm really striving for is for there to be substance in my album." Ivory's 'Reflections' mixtape a joint effort between DJ Frosty and Charlamagne Tha God is available now.
