Keri Hilson Refuses to Apologize for NSFW Video

When singer Keri Hilson released the video for her innocently-titled new song ‘The Way You Love Me,’ she probably didn’t expect to receive such a strong backlash. Despite appearing in the video in a leather bikini, and singing a down and dirty hook that features the refrain “F— me, f— me,” and the line “I got the kinda p—- that’ll keep you out the streets,” Hilson claims that the steamy video is just her being honest about her sexuality.

“I’m just saying what women really think and feel and if I’m gonna be honest about myself, I have to show that side of myself,” the ‘Knock You Down’ singer told Hot 97′s Angie Martinez, adding that while the song is about being a freak, it’s about doing so within a committed relationship. “Look, sometimes, this is what we want. If I’m in a room and I’m writing from a girl’s perspective, I may be a small percentage of a freak, but I am a freak! There’s a time to be that. If you’re being real with yourself — I’m not talking about giving it to everybody — I’m in a relationship and I’m saying look, tonight, I don’t want to caress. I want you to f— me tonight!”

Despite the criticism she’s received from former supporters like Perez Hilton, who questioned whether the video wasn’t just a “calculated move” to draw media attention to the release of new album, ‘No Boys Allowed,’ Hilson claims she’s attempting to empower women with ‘The Way You Love Me.’ “Even though it’s gotten crazy, crazy, crazy bad reviews, it’s also gotten some great reviews from women who respect it and women who did feel empowered by it,” she explained to Martinez. “So that, to me, overshadowed the ones that didn’t understand it. I feel good.”

Refusing to apologize for the video, which also features fellow black-clad femme fatales JoJo, Dawn Richard and Faith Evans and a verse by rapper Rick Ross, Hilson continued to defend her right to be honest about her sexuality in her work. “I believe in artistry and interpretation,” she concluded. “Whatever repercussions come, I’m willing to be on that chopping block for entertainment’s sake.”

Hilson did concede that the version featured on ‘No Boys Allowed’ would be the clean edit. The album, her second, is in stores Dec. 21. Check out the ‘The Way You Love Me’ video below.
