Kendrick Lamar has cited many artists who have influenced him, including late rap icons Tupac Shakur and Eazy-E. In a recent interview with The Coveteur, the Compton rhymer praised Lil Wayne and called him "the Greatest."

When discussing his musical influences, he highlighted Weezy’s storied rap career and the legacy he maintains with his fans.

"That’s a real story like, he was just huge, still to this day, huge Lil Wayne fans," he says. "Lil Wayne is the greatest. Not only because of his music but also because of the culture he put behind it."

"It was a big part of what he was talking about, so we always hold Lil Wayne in high regards," he continues. "Juvenile as well. And yeah, it’s the impact of them, man. To be a part of it the same way he was a part of it years later is just a great feeling.”

While Lamar may have a point, his comments sparked a tidal wave of debates on social media. Some people said that Tunechi is far from the G.O.A.T. ("Greatest of All Time") while others agree that Wayne is the greatest for his long-lasting career and influence among his rap peers. Other fans noted a Lamar tweet in 2015 where he saluted Weezy for being the most influential. So K.Dot's admiration for Tunechi shouldn't be a real surprise.

"Kendrick said Lil Wayne is the greatest of all time. Not surprising given Kendrick's his age. (don't get it twisted, I disagree lol)," tweeted one fan, while another wrote, "Lil Wayne still the best rapper alive no if ands or buts! Kendrick Lamar kept it real yesterday."

Nevertheless, Wayne appreciated the love and returned it with a tweet on his Twitter account. "Kendrick Lamar a real one #Respek," he wrote.
