R&B singer Kehlani scared her friends, family and fans earlier this year after a suicide attempt landed the young star in an emergency room. During a performance last month, Kehlani addressed mental and emotional well-being as well as depression.

"[Suicide] is something that so many young people are dealing with," Kehlani said. "And so many young people slip under the rug. Please don't try it. Don't do it."

Back in March, the 21-year old made headlines after PARTYNEXTDOOR posted a photo of himself and Kehlani in bed together watching television while she was allegedly in a relationship with NBA star Kyrie Irving. Kehlani became the subject of social media gossip and criticism for what fans assumed was infidelity, and she wound up in an emergency room after a reported suicide attempt.

Acknowledging that it was "my first show back after a while" and that "this is one of the first genuine smiles in a few weeks," Kehlani urged the audience to show compassion to those who may be struggling with suicidal thoughts. She also shared more about her own personal hardships.

"It wasn't a first time thing, and that's not okay...for anyone," she revealed. "Not for the people around you, not for the people that love you, not the people that care about you."

If you have a friend and tey're scaring you a little--just love them. Okay? Hug them and love them up and tell them that it's good, okay? From me to you: you are worth it, you are perfect and you need to be here every single day that you are meant to be here. Get up every day and know that and tell yourself that, okay? And I love you all very much."

The singer has just released a new song called "24/7" that touches on finding peace within oneself. “It’s OK to not be OK,” she sings. “To dive in your pain / And it’s alright to not be alright / To search for your light.”
