Kanye West Takes ‘Heartbreak’ on the Road

Kanye West will take his craft to the stage, when he heads out on his '808's and Hearbreak' tour this summer. The Chicago native's will kick off the tour in Europe this July, before heading to the states in the fall.

West promises to not disappoint and will infuse theatrical ideas into his new tour. ""Being on stage, it's the glory," he said in an interview. "I like the challenge of having to win people over with a new concept.

"My father (Ray West) was a salesman. And I saw him have to talk people into things and expose people to new ideas all the time. And I like that. What's the point if you're not presenting something new to people, that people might not be ready for, and exposing people to new ideas?"

For this tour, the rapper will consult with many of the people he worked with on his 'Glow in The Dark Tour.' Among them is filmmaker Spike Jonze who directed West's upcoming 'See You In My Nightmares' video.

"I get bored with stuff," West said of his laser light infused previous tour which he went on following the death of his mother. "The last one was done because I didn't feel like doing a rap show, because of all I was going through in my life. All I felt like was playing with 'Star Wars' (toys) and being Luke Skywalker. So I figured you know, 'I'll do a rap show if I can just be like Luke Skywalker every night.' And so I just wrote my own sci-fi and played in it."

With the release of his '808's and Heartbreak' West tried his hand at "singing" by use of a vocoder machine. Despite skepticism the album has sold over a million copies since its release last November. "The subject matter was real life. The medium was melody," West said. "And the format was very similar to the way people would organize a fashion show, more so than an album. And I felt like this was my season. ... I deliver my music more as a designer than a producer now."

Aside from his musical endeavors, West is also testing out his acting chops with an appearance on the up-coming animated series 'The Cleveland Show.' West, who recorded his scenes earlier this month, plays a rapper named Kenny West. The show will premiere this fall.
