Kanye West Pops in on Common’s ‘Secret’ New York Show

As part of a NBC "Locals Only" series, Chicago bred rapper Common took over an old synagogue in New York's Lower East Side on Thursday night. Despite intense rainfall, fans lined up outside the amazing edifice for a chance to catch a special "secret" Common show.

After a two-hour delay, Common, in a button down shirt, jeans and bow tie, took to the stage and launched into 2005's 'Go' off his multi-platinum album, 'Be.' The rapper gave the crowd a little bit of old mixed with a lot of new -- despite some technical issues -- as he rocked out to tracks off his new album, 'Universal Mind Control.' In true b-boy fashion, Common a few "pop and lockers" to join him on stage while he performed the Planet Rock-esque title track off his new project.

Unlike last week's surprise performance in a Los Angeles warehouse, the New York show featured a special guest appearance by none other than fellow Chi-town emcee, Kanye West. West stunned the crowd when he walked onstage to sing his latest single 'Heartless' -- minus the auto-tuner. Dispute mixed reviews by music critics, the excited crowd seemingly loved West's new sound. The pair failed to perform some of their hot collaborations. Instead, West went from 'Heartless' to 'Amazing' to the straight out the '80s tune 'Paranoid.' West left the stage while 'Love Lockdown' played in the background, bringing the mini-concert to a close.

Fans were also treated to another special guest when tennis star Serena Williams appeared in the crowd after the show. Common and Williams have been linked together in the media for the past year after pictures of the pair cuddling, shopping and surfing surfaced on the 'net.
