Judge Sets Trial Date in Remy Ma’s Assault Case

Marred by recent legal trouble, rapper Remy Ma's trial for gang assault and witness tampering is set to begin on February 25, according to TMZ. Remy, whose real name is Reminisce Smith, is accused of shooting her longtime friend, Makeda Barnes-Joseph, in the stomach for allegedly lifting $2,000 from her purse in July 2007, and then trying to intimidate a witness's boyfriend.

In August 2007, a group of male friends, who were said to be associates of Smith, reportedly attacked an unnamed man, who suffered a black eye, shattered jaw and broken cheekbone. To add insult to injury, Barnes-Joseph slapped Smith and her former record labels Universal Music Group and Sure Shot Recordings with a $80 million lawsuit on January 9.
