Death Row Records, led by the notoriously embattled Suge Knight, and its steadily declining fortunes took another turn for the worse Friday, as a federal judge mandated a bankruptcy trustee takeover of the former top hip-hop label citing gross mismanagement.

The judge cited the label's haphazard accounting and Knight's admission that he hadn't studied the label's financial statements in the last ten years, as reasons for the move. "It seems apparent there is no one at the helm," U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Ellen Carroll told the Associated Press.

The label previously filed for bankruptcy in April.
