The popular Spike show Lip Sync Battle features celebrities trying their best at karaoke, singing some of the most popular songs from the past and present. Past contestants include Mike Tyson, Terrence Howard and Salt-N-Pepa. But actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt might have delivered the best performance of the year with his spot-on rendition of Janet Jackson’s 1989 hit “Rhythm Nation” -- in drag no less.

As part of a special The Night Before-themed episode, the holiday movie’s cast -- Anthony Mackie, Seth Rogen and Gordon-Levitt -- had to show off their karaoke skills.

Gordon-Levitt was clearly up for the challenge. Dressed in all-black military garb nearly identical to what Janet wore in her iconic black-and-white video, the 34-year-old actor channelled the R&B diva, including lipstick and a clip-on ponytail. Now that’s dedication.

As for the choreography, which included some military-style dance steps and syncopated hand motions -- he nailed it.

Overall, Ms. Jackson would be proud.

But we must also talk about Mackie’s performance as well. His rendition of MC Hammer’s 1991 classic song "2 Legit 2 Quit" wasn’t bad at all. He even donned a box haircut and spandex.

In the end, Gordon-Levitt won this lip sync battle hands down. Bravo!
