John Legend will be playing the role of Frederick Douglass on WGN's Underground, a show that he also co-executive produces.

The R&B star first revealed that he was playing the American icon last September, and the episode called "Whiteface" will be airing tonight (April 5). In it, Legend will be seen at a party that's being thrown in Philadelphia by Cato, one of the show's characters but it's not clear if he'll be in any other scenes.

During an interview with Variety earlier this year, the father-of-one said he's studied Frederick Douglass as a child, and he doesn't take playing him lightly at all.

"I looked at it as an honor to be able to do that," Legend explained. "To represent someone that I had been reading about since I was a little kid. It's humbling to take on that role, but I felt like it was a huge honor and I wanted to do what I could to help the show."

Again, the "Whiteface" episode will air tonight at 10:00 p.m. EST and you can watch the trailer above.
