"Tonight," Jill Scott says at the top of her episode of "VH1 Storytellers," which premiered last night (May 21), "it's gonna be a little sexy, a little funny, a little classy, a little moving. This is the way I tell stories."

Sounds about right. Since arriving on the scene in 1999, the soul singer, songwriter, poet and actress has shown multiple sides of her personality, building a body of work that includes four studio albums and no fewer than five films. Scott filmed her "Storytellers" at New York City's Hammerstein Ballroom, and backed by a 15-piece band, the Philly songstress changed outfits and played various characters, putting her own unique spin on the popular music series.

In the rendition of "Gettin' in the Way" posted below, Scott begins by acting out a phone conversation, portraying a woman who tells a man his girlfriend is cheating, just because she wants to break them up.

"It's just a matter of time," she says, playing up a ghetto-fab accent. "It's a lie but it don't even matter, because he's supposed to be my man. He was born to be my man. That's the way it's gonna be. He's my man!"

It's a funny skit, and the song -- like the other musical performances -- is even better.
