Jermaine Dupri Discusses Fallen Cali Swag District’s M-Bone
Fans and artists alike continue to express their sympathies for the friends and family of slain Cali Swag District member M-Bone, who was shot twice in the head by an unknown assailant in Inglewood, Calif. on Sunday night (May 15).
Platinum-selling producer and Atlanta rap pioneer Jermaine Dupri, who appeared on the remix for the group's ubiquitous dance-hit 'Teach Me How to Dougie,' expressed his appreciation for M-Bone's drive and determination in an interview with MTV, lamenting the loss of the 22-year-old dancer.
"I believe that he was the one that they all looked to to learn how to do the Dougie," Dupri revealed. "Everyone was about it, but he was the one who went hard with it. That's my most significant memory about him... He was one of the main dudes who brought the dance back to them. The dance originated in Dallas and was brought to Cali. The members of the group are not from where the dance is from. He was the one who was really killing the Dougie."
Though M-Bone did not rap on the song, despite some media outlets suggesting he had, JD continued to state his admiration for the Cali Swag dancer's choreography.
"He was instrumental at showing people the dances. He was the main inspiration behind the creative dances that ultimately defined the group," Dupri continued. "He was the fourth member, who didn't rap, but played his position by taking the lead on creating unique dances."
The senseless shooting is now being attributed to a Twitter beef with a jealous neighbor. The Inglewood Police Department is entreating anyone with information about the crime to call its homicide dept. at (310) 412-5246 or 24-hour anonymous hotline number, (888) 412-7463.
