Jay Z's music streaming platform Tidal, in association with entertainment/management company Roc Nation, is donating $1.5 million to Black Lives Matter and other organizations aimed at social justice. According to Mic, Tidal raised the money at the Tidal 10/20 charity concert in Brooklyn which featured several of the brand's star owners, including Nicki Minaj, Nick Jonas, Lil Wayne, Beyonce and Jay Z. The platform's high-profile ownership helped decide which organizations would receive funding.

Grants will be administered through the New World Foundation, an organization that has helped to fund grassroots political and social movements since 1954, including anti-apartheid and civil rights movements. "Since our founding, we have been guided by a belief in an inclusive democracy that advances environmental safety, economic equality, immigrants’ rights, access to education, and democratic participation," states the foundation's website.

Several of the nonprofits Tidal will fund include: Opportunity Agenda, Hands Up United, Sankofa.Org, Dream Defenders, Black Youth Project, Baltimore Justice Fund, Million Hoodies, and the Ohio Students Association/Organization Collaborative.

There will also be additional donations made to the Trayvon Martin Foundation, the Michael O.D. Brown We Love Our Sons and Daughters Foundation and the Oscar Grant Foundation.

"The process of acquiring recommendations [for nonprofits] was collaborative and inspired by the message that speaks to racial and social inequities and injustice in our society," Dania Diaz, managing director of philanthropy at Roc Nation, told Mic. "Each year we will support a different initiative. Our ideology is to have a hifi level of consciousness in everything we do."
