Jay-Z’s ‘Empire State of Mind’ Sung by Selita Ebanks, Models
Jay-Z's 2009 anthem 'Empire State of Mind' didn't just stay within New York's five boroughs; the song reached the masses, regardless of the regional message. Fans across the globe recited the Brooklyn rap star's lyrics, along with Alicia Keys' chorus, and a new video featuring some fashion savvy ladies has them doing much of the same.
In what's being dubbed as an "ode to New York City," 30 models walk the streets of New York and pay homage to the city Hov's song was inspired by in the Justin Wu-directed visuals, which debuted on LifeandTimes.com.
Selita Ebanks, known for her work with Victoria's Secret and Kanye West during his 'Runaway' video -- she played a phoenix -- is one of the more recognizable faces in the clip. As she walks through Washington Square Park, she recites lyrics from Keys -- "These streets will make you feel brand new/ Big lights will inspire you" -- while brushing "dirt" off her shoulders a la Jay-Z's 'Dirt Off Your Shoulders' video.
Karlie Kloss, Constance Jablonski, Jourdan Dunn, Daphne Groeneveld, Edita Vilkeviciute, Hailey Clauson, Josephine Skriver, Zuzanna Bijoch, Shu Pei, Kristina Salinovic, Martha Streck, Toni Garrn, R'el Dade, Andi Muise, Ataui Deng, Chantal Stafford-Abbot, Kelsey Rogers, Ashton Phillips, Fabiana Mayer, Sabrina Nait, Sydney Edmonds, Claire Collins, Brenda Mutoni, Naoumie Ekiko, Sonia Niekrasz, Paris, Kaitlin, Lina and Tian all make their appearance in the video, too.
