Jay-Z Teaches Oprah ‘Rap 101′

The budding friendship between Jay-Z and Oprah Winfrey has gone further than their interview for her magazine, as the rapper has even taught the talk show host how to rap. The two, who caused a stir as they walked through Brooklyn's Marcy Housing Projects, where Jay grew up, have since found that they have more in common than people may think. Jay and Winfrey weighed in on their similarities during a call to the 'Gayle King Radio Show.'

"The only difference is I haven't shot anybody or been shot at, but other than that we have a lot in common," Winfrey said of her relationship with Jay. "Growing up in a poor background and all that. Everybody is always surprised when I say that to them. That's what I learned particularly in this edition of O [Magazine]."

Alongside his feature in the October issue of O Magazine Hov gave a list of his favorite books, many of which struck a chord with Winfrey. "You did our 'books that made a difference' and the fact that 'Seed of the Soul' was in there, which has been one of my favorite books for at least over a decade is one of your favorite books -- I think people are surprised by that."

The Grammy winner opened up about both his personal and professional life during the magazine interview and agreed with Winfrey's views on their commonalities. "I think people need to understand that there is complexity in human beings," he said. "It's not just one thing, you can't just look at someone and say that person is that way. I'm not just one thing and you're not just one thing, we're complex human beings."

During his appearance on the 'Oprah Winfrey Show' Jay also teaches Winfrey "rap 101" even making her write her own flow. "She's very aware of herself," he said of the lesson. "She's a poet in her own way. There's poetry in interviewing, there's a beat it, there's poetry in everything."

Jay's episode of the 'Oprah Winfrey Show' airs Sept. 24.
