In the wake of the police killings of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile, Jay Z has released a new track, "Spiritual," in which he urges cops to "stop shooting."

The track, co-produced by Detail and Ray Real, was released on TIDAL last night (July 7) and follows support of other celebrities after the police killings, including his wife Beyoncé, who held a moment of silence at her concert last night for the victims of police violence and released a statement on her website earlier in the day saying, "we don't need sympathy." She also called on people to contact their local congress persons to affect change.

Of course, Jay and Bey's activism isn't anything new. In addition to reportedly bailing out protestors in Baltimore and St. Louis,TIDAL announced on Feb. 5 (Trayvon Martin's birthday) that it would donate $1.5 million from its October charity concert to the Black Lives Matter and other civic groups.

Jay released a statement on TIDAL and Twitter to go along with the song.

I made this song awhile ago, I never got to finish it. Punch (TDE) told me I should drop it when Mike Brown died, sadly I told him “this issue will always be relevant.” I’m hurt that i knew that his death wouldn’t be the last……I’m saddened and disappointed in THIS America – we should be further along. WE ARE NOT. I trust God and know that everything that happens is for our greatest good, but man….it’s tough right now. Blessings to all the families that have lost loved ones to police brutality.

Hov ended the statement with a quote by freedom fighter, Frederick Douglass: “Where justice is denied, where poverty is enforced, where ignorance prevails, and where any one class is made to feel that society is an organized conspiracy to oppress, rob and degrade them, neither persons nor property will be safe. ”

On the song he raps, "Yeah, I am not poison, no I am not poison / Just a boy from the hood that / Got my hands in the air / In despair don't shoot / I just wanna do good, ah / I am not poison, no I am not poison / Just a boy from the hood that / Got my hands in the air / In despair don't shoot / I just wanna do good, uh."
