Jay-Z Makes Surprise Appearance at Summer Jam
It's not unusual for Jay-Z to pop up at one of the biggest hip-hop events of the year, but fans were shocked to see the iconic MC stroll onstage during Young Jeezy's performance of 'Put On' Sunday night at Hot 97's Summer Jam concert in East Rutherford, NJ. Jay spit his verse as the crowd went wild, making it almost impossible to hear the MC proclaim:
"I put Marcy on the map, I put Brooklyn on my back. I put Fab back on the charts, I put Biggie in my raps/ I put Nas with Def Jam, I let Diddy do my tracks./ I put on for my city, that's a mother----ing fact/ ... I put Prodigy in his place on that Summer Jam screen."
The rapper also performed his new joint 'D.O.A.,' which he premiered on the NY radio station Friday, for the excited crowd.
"This ain't for iTunes, this ain't for singalongs," he rhymed, before being joined by onstage by Mr. Auto-tune himself, T-Pain. "This is Sinatra at the opera, bring a blonde ... My raps don't have melodies/ It should make jackers commit felonies/ This ain't a #1 record, this is practically assault with a deadly weapon."
Known for bringing the best in hip-hop and R&B together for one night, this year's Summer Jam boasted performances by Mary J. Blige, The Dream, Jadakiss, Jeezy, Jim Jones, Juelz Santana, Pleasure P, Day 26, Mavado, Serani and T-Pain, with surprise appearances by Method Man, Redman, Swizz Beatz, Lil' Kim, Busta Rhymes, Fabolous, Jeremih, Drake and Elephant Man.
