Jay Z’s Magna Carter World Tour Invades Minneapolis [Video]
Jay Z kicked off his Magna Carter World Tour in Minneapolis Saturday night (Nov. 30) and gave audiences an energetic show. It’s been a decade since Hov performed in the Twin Cities, but that wasn’t an issue for the 10,000 fans who treated him like royalty at the Xcel Energy Center.
Backed by a four-piece band, which also included his long-time producer Timbaland on the decks, Jay Z entertained the appreciative crowd with a myriad of songs from his expansive catalog. For two-plus hours, it felt like a rock concert than your average rap show.
According to Rolling Stone, the Brooklyn rhymer was able to maneuver performing his past summer hits ('Holy Grail,' 'Tom Ford') and mixing them with his classic tracks ('Big Pimpin’ to ’99 Problems').
Midway through his set, Hov took a break and allowed Timbo to perform a DJ set where he broke down his most famous beats and loops.
Jay Z also gave the Minneapolis audience a five-song encore of his most popular hits: "Encore,’ 'Empire State of Mind,' 'Izzo (H.O.V.A.),' 'Hard Knock Life’ and 'Young Forever.'
In the end, the Magna Carter World Tour is less of a concert and more of a reminder that Jay Z is, arguably, the most gifted and engaging rapper that hip-hop has ever produced.
