MTV's Video Music Awards is always a big event, and this year's fete should not disappoint; we've just learned that mega-stars Jay-Z and Lady Gaga will be joining confirmed performers Green Day, Pink, Taylor Swift and Muse.

Jay, whose 'D.O.A.' is up for Best Hip-Hop Video and Best Male Video, will be performing a track from his forthcoming 'The Blueprint 3' album, while Gaga, who has tied Beyonce with an impressive nine VMA nominations, will rock a single from her debut, 'The Fame.'

"I'm simply gutted to be both a performer and nominee at the 2009 VMAs," said Gaga. "In fact, I'm so happy, I could die...I'm delighted to be in Beyonce's company and I can't wait to go to the awards show and hopefully kick some ass."

Comic actor Russell Brand will return as the host of the show, while Katy Perry, Ne-Yo, Nelly Furtado and Leighton Meester top the list of presenters who will be handing out awards on Sept. 13.

We're sure that more presenters and performers will be announced shortly, but thus far, it looks like a pretty exciting night.
