If you thought Jay Z's art appreciation was just lip service you couldn't be more wrong. In fact, there are 4.5 million reasons why you'd be incorrect in that assumption. Why? Well, according to an unnamed source Jay-Z bought an original painting by Jean-Michel Basquiat for a whopping $4.5 million at Sotheby's auction house last week.

The New York Post reports that Jay Z was revealed as the anonymous buyer who forked over millions for Basquiat's 1982 painting 'Mecca.' 'Mecca' is a crude orange, black and white painting of the Empire State Building and its surroundings. Apparently, Jay Z wanted more than just the "yellow Basquiat" in "his kitchen corner," he mentions  on 'Picasso Baby.'

The yellow Basquiat Jay Z may be referring to is the painting, 'Charles the First.' It has the words "Most Kings Get Their Head Cut Off," which Jay Z says is the basis of 2010's 'Most Kingz. Jay Z's lines in the song were ripped from his famous 'Grammy Family Freestyle' from 2006.
