Janelle Monae will receive the Rising Star Award at the 2013 Billboard Women in Music event. The ceremony, which takes place in New York on Dec. 10, will salute women who are making great strides in the music world.

Monae is certainly at the top of her game right now. The R&B songbird released her second album, 'The Electric Lady,' last month to rave reviews across the board. Her fantastic video for 'Q.U.E.E.N,' featuring Erykah Badu, is a futuristic jam session and she just released a new visual for 'PrimeTime' featuring Miguel.

"Being recognized for your hard work and passion is always humbling and encouraging. I feel honored Billboard has taken note of my journey in the music industry thus far," she says. "I hope by receiving this award I'm encouraging aspiring acts to stay true to their own artistic visions and never give up."

Not to throw shade at Billboard, but the 27-year-old artist is beyond a rising star -- she’s a shining star.

Monae launched her career in 2010, with her debut album, 'ArchAndroid.' The collection earned her a Grammy nomination for the single, 'Cold War.'

Pop star Pink will also be honored with the Woman of the Year award at the Billboard event.

Congratulations to both Janelle Monae and Pink on their honors.
