J. Cole finds himself on the wrong side of the law in his new 'Crooked Smile' video that is more like a mini-movie than your typical music video.

The 'Born Sinner' single, which features TLC's Chilli and T-Boz on the hook, serves as the soundtrack for a piece dedicated to the memory of 7-year-old Aiyana Stanley-Jones. For those unfamiliar with her story, she was shot and killed in 2010 during a raid of the Detroit home she was living in with her family.

The most recent update in the story occurred this past August. According to CBS, a judge declared a mistrial in the case in which a Detroit police officer has been charged with manslaughter in connection to the young girl's death. He will face a new trial in December, the Detroit Free Press reports.

In the 'Crooked Smile' video, Cole plays the role of a drug dealer who gets caught up in his trade and, eventually, pays for it in the worst way possible. We won't spoil too much about the piece—it's more than worth your time—but it sticks close to the narrative that led to the tragic death of Aiyana.

You can watch the video above. 'Born Sinner' is out now.
