Before there was A$AP Rocky there was Aesop Rock, an abstract, tongue-twisting MC from Long Island who was at the vanguard of NYC’s underground/indie rap renaissance of the late ‘90s and early 2000s. As a pillar of the now defunct Def Jux's roster, Aesop Rock became a go-to artist for fans of left field rap and lyricism.
