iHeartRadio Music Awards 2014 Performances Include Usher, Kendrick Lamar, Pharrell & Ariana Grande [VIDEO]
R&B superstar Usher assisted with the world premiere of Michael Jackson’s new single ‘Love Never Felt So Good.’
The song, which is from MJ’s upcoming posthumous album, ‘Xscape,’ was written by Jackson and Paul Anka. An alternate version featuring Justin Timberlake is being serviced to radio.
Following a touching introduction from Epic Records honcho L.A. Reid, a team of dancers mimicked the King of Pop’s famous dance steps while the song played on.
Then Usher graced the stage and added his fancy footwork to the song — he even did the moonwalk. At the end of his performance, the crooner blew a kiss to the sky.
Another highlight was Kendrick Lamar’s performance. Joined by 150 of his closest fans rocking TDE shirts, K.Dot saluted his hometown of Compton with a rendition of the Tupac Shakur and Dr. Dre classic ‘California Love’ and a subdued rendition of ‘m.a.a.d. city.’
Finally, Ariana Grande performed her brand new single for the first time at the iHeart Radio Music Awards. The 20-year-old diva sang ‘Problem,’ which is expected to debut in the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 chart with an estimated 300,000 downloads sold.
Elsewhere, Rihanna and Pharrell Williams were honored at the event for their achievements in music.
RiRi, dressed in all-back with her hair in various twists, received four awards — Song of the Year (‘Stay’), Artist of the Year, Hip-Hop/R&B Song of the Year (‘Pour It Up’) and Best Fan Army.
“I’ve never felt comfortable being anything other than myself and I just thank my fans for being supportive and embracing that freedom and liberation,” she said while accepting her Fan Army trophy. “We’re a family. We stick together. I love you guys.”
Meanwhile, Skateboard P was honored with the first-ever iHeartRadio Innovator Award. Before accepting his award, he performed a medley of hits starting with ‘Come Get it Bae’ following by ‘Blurred Lines,’ ‘Get Lucky’ and ‘Happy.’
During his emotional acceptance speech, he thanked his wife, son and fans. “Thank you guys so much for lifting me so high,” he said.
