West Coast rap legend Ice Cube's long-awaited documentary on the Los Angeles Raiders, 'Straight Outta L.A.,' is scheduled to make its theatrical debut at the the Tribeca/ESPN Sports Film Festival this coming April.

The film covers the Raiders' 1982 move from Oakland to Los Angeles, where they remained until 1995, winning their third, and last, Super Bowl, before returning to Oakland.

"All of the sports documentaries in this year's festival truly illustrate that the reach of sports in society extends far past solely athletics and into such disciplines as music, language, art and of course, film," ESPN executive Keith Clinkscales said. "We are thrilled to launch this year's Tribeca/ESPN Sports Film Festival with a film that shows how sports are intertwined in so many other cultural arenas,"

With the help of Ice Cube's seminal Compton rap group N.W.A., the silver and black of the L.A. Raiders' gear became the signature of the emerging West Coast gangsta rap.

"The music, lyrics and images that I created with N.W.A as a solo artist and as an actor helped turn the Raiders into something more than a football team," Ice Cube said in a recent interview. "To this day, kids all over the world buy Raiders gear, imitate the 'Gangster Rap' style and try to connect with the South Central L.A. vibe that we brought to the masses."

Cube's film screens at Tribeca on April 23, and makes its television debut May 11 on ESPN.
