Every year, the Afropunk Festival breaks barriers and opens their doors to all, the only things that aren’t welcome are ignorance and disrespect. It’s an event that speaks to all walks of life and has a line-up that is truly diverse. And this year's event was an electic mix of gangsta rap, funk, soul, metal and punk.

A few of the heavy hitters on the first day of the event included poet, singer and activist Saul Williams on the Red Stage. While over on the Green Stage, the extravagant Cee-Lo Green heated things up in the sun with a soulful and fun performance. One of the best performances of the day goes to the very energetic Tyler the Creator who headlined the Red Stage. The West Coast high flying rapper performed with force as he unleashed notable tunes “Domo 23,” “Bimmer,” “Tamale” and much more.

On the second day of Afropunk Festival, Ice Cube headlined the Green Stage and hip-hop heads packed in to see him perform N.W.A. anthems “Straight Outta Compton,” “Gangsta Gangsta” and “Fuck the Police.” Even though he took the stage over an hour than his original set time, for die-hard Ice Cube fans it was worth the wait as he also delivered classic solo tracks “It Was A Good Day” and “Check Yo’ Self.”

Over on the Red Stage, Janelle Monae headlined and honed her inner James Brown and Michael Jackson as she twisted and twirled for a breathtaking performance. The girl power was steady throughout the day as Angel Haze took to the Red Stage early on.
