Ice Cube has recently found success on the small screen by serving as producer on TBS' 'Are We There Yet.' But the rapper-turned-actor is ready to return to the movies. The Compton native is in negotiations to star in the upcoming remake of '21 Jump Street' co-starring Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum.

The film stars Hill and Tatum as cops who go undercover in colleges and high schools. Ice Cube is in talks to play the police chief, Captain Dickinson, who did not appear on the show under the same name. The film adaptation, based on the show that starred Johnny Depp and ran in the late '80s for five seasons. Production is expected to start in late April, with the final product out on March 16, 2012.

Ice Cube, whose real name is O'Shea Jackson, is a busy man. He is currently wrapping up filming on the upcoming LAPD scandal film 'Rampart.' In this flick, he will star as an officer caught up in the city's anti-gang program, known for committing crimes against citizens.

"I've been looking for these kinds of roles," Cube previously said of the role. "I've been doing comedies and family kind of deals lately, and I've been looking for dramas. As an actor, I'm really looking forward to being part of a heavy story."

Cube will then head out on a late winter tour behind his latest release 'I Am the West.' The tour kicks off on Feb. 24 in Aspen, Colo. For a full list of tour dates, head here.
