What starts out as a seemingly straightforward video quickly moves into something else entirely in this new clip for Homeboy Sandman's great 'Men Are Mortal.'

If you were to read that you're about to watch a video of a rapper spitting his bars at the camera while jump-roping, would you be impressed? Maybe. Perhaps the physical accomplishment is enough to entice you and ultimately win you over. But you could be looking for more—a hook, if you will.

Well, ask and you shall receive. 'Men Are Mortal' is indeed a music video featuring the Queens rapper working out on a roof-top, but there's much more to it than that. Director Pace Rivers' approach is genius in its simplicity, as it allows Sandman's dizzying raps to surround you like a smoke cloud before, poof, it's all over.

You can watch the video above. Sandman's got a few EPs out now on Stones Through, including 'Kool Herc: Fertile Crescent,' from which this track stems.
