The hip-hop and R&B community is coming together to share their thoughts and send condolences after nine people were killed when a white man opened fire at a historic black church in Charleston, S.C., on Wednesday (June 17).

According to Live5News.com, authorities are investigating this heinous act as a hate crime. The Charleston Police Department have identified the shooter as 21-year-old Dylann Roof, of Lexington, S.C. After a manhunt was underway to find him, the suspect was apprehended during a traffic stop in Shelby, N.C., authorities said.

"This is clearly a tragedy in the City of Charleston," said Police Chief Greg Mullen. "We are all praying and our hearts go out to the victims and their families as well as this entire community.”

Rappers and singers in the music world went on Twitter to express their sentiments and send their prayers to the people of Charleston.

"Everyday People are losing their lives w/ the uncertainty of a Russian Roulette game. do any of you care? really care? #BlackLivesMatter," Questlove tweeted. Keri Hilson also offered her opinion on the tragic event. "This is racially motivated domestic TERRORISM. Praying for Charleston w/ tears of disgust in my eyes. I AM DISGUSTED. #CharlestonShooting," she wrote.
