Needlz has another trophy to add to the shelf. The Grammy-winning producer took home an award from the 28th Annual ASCAP Pop Award for his work on Bruno Mars‘ hit ‘Just the Way You Are,’ which also won the Grammy Award for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance earlier this year.

“Both winning a Grammy and receiving the ASCAP Pop Award are major,” he said in a statement. “Overall though, just being relevant after so many years [is] a big accomplishment to me. So many people come and go, and I just had the best year of my career thus far, so I’m definitely blessed. I’m all about the music these days — I’m really all for making an impact, it’s about more than money to me.”

The beatsmith, best known for his work on records for Lupe Fiasco, Ludacris, Young Jeezy and more, continued by acknowledging the honor of receiving an award outside of the hip-hop realm.

“I think it’s awesome that after doing urban music for so long, I’ve been able to have such a big mainstream record,” he continued. “I find myself listening to a variety of music these days, and eventually I want to get in to dance and electronic music. I’m just looking for the right artist to break in with.”

His recent win comes ahead of his upcoming summer EP release with rapper Honors English. The Michigan native sits at the helm for the entirety of the project, which features guest appearances from Lupe Fiasco and TL Cross.

Other 2011 notable ASCAP winners in the R&B category include Boi-1da for his work on Drake‘s hip-hop medley ‘Forever’ and Kerry “Krucial” Brothers for Alicia Keys‘ ‘Un-Thinkable (I’m Ready).’
