Hip Hop Honors Shines Light on the South in Two-Hour Tribute
The Dirty South was shown a little hospitality at the 2010 VH1 Hip Hop Honors, which aired last night (June 7). The two hour show paid homage to some of the music industry's musical innovators from the southern region, including Organized Noize, Jermaine Dupri, Timbaland, Luther "Uncle Luke" Campbell, Master P, and Rap-A-Lot records founder, J Prince.
Hosted by comedian Craig T. Nelson, the broadcast featured comedy skits, performances and surprise appearances from artists like Missy Elliott, Silk the Shocker, and Bone Crusher, who have all been missing from the spotlight as of late. Although the entire South was honored, Miami seemed to have the broadcast on lock with Trina, DJ Khaled, Rick Ross, Pitbull and Flo Rida all taking the stage for their respective tributes.

Ironically, Dupri pretty much paid his own tribute, re-teaming with friend and longtime collaborator Bow Wow as Kriss Kross. The two took the stage donning backwards baseball jerseys, performed their No.1 hit 'Jump.' The rap duo signed to Dupri's So So Def label in the early '90s and released their quadruple platinum selling debut, 'Totally Krossed Out,' in 1992.
Rapper Romeo performed in acknowledgement of his father Master P's musical influence by way of his No Limit Records label. With famed New York DJ Kid Capri behind the ones and twos, Romeo went through a medly of P's hits like 'Bout It Bout It' and 'Make Em Say Uhh.' The newly freed Gucci Mane also took part in the tribute, performing P's 'Miss My Homies.' The night's other big name performers and appearances included Atlanta's self-appointed king of the south T.I., Lil Jon, Drake, Nelly and Asher Roth.
